Tinman Too

A juried Invitational at Tinman Gallery – Friday, Feb 4 – Feb 26, 2011

In line with our mission to support and develop the artists in our region, Tinman Gallery  is creating a venue for the new and emerging artists in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.  Accordingly, we are asking for submissions to a new group show of the best  visual artists in the Inland Northwest under the age of 40.

Inspired by The New Yorker’s recent list of the best  20 under 40 American authors, this show is a focused look at the talent emerging around us.  It represents the multiple strands of creativity and vitality that are contemporary art today.  Any professional artist who lives within 200 miles of Spokane and is under 40 years of age by December  1, 2010 may apply to be selected for this show.

Up to 20 artists will be selected by a jury of 3 based on artistic excellence and contemporary relevance as determined by each juror.  To be considered, the artist must fill out the attached form and submit the following documentation:

1.  A resume including art education and art accomplishments, including past exhibitions, prizes,  public commissions, Board experience or teaching experience when relevant.
2. An artist’s statement describing vision, goal, purpose, method of artmaking and so on.
3. 10 slides or a disk containing 10 images from up to two BODIES of work,  10 images TOTAL.

All work chosen for exhibition must be for sale.  (The artist will have to designate which pieces are still available among the images submitted for consideration.  Like The New Yorker, if there is no currently available work, the artist will not be included.)   Any sale of work in the show is subject to a 45% commission by the Tinman Gallery.   Any private commissions accepted as a result of this exhibition will be subject to a 20% commission by the Tinman Gallery.

Art may be in any visual  media, except for film.  Digitized/manipulated images are acceptable, if the process is described.  (No reproductions)

The jurors will also award a Best in Show and two finalist prizes,  of a value of at least $100 each.

The jurors are Scott Kolbo, Professor of Art, Whitworth University, Carrie Scozzaro, arts writer, educator  and artist, Rathdrum  ID, and Kay O’Rourke, artist, Spokane.

Deadline for submission is December  10^th  at 5 PM.  Entries may be either hand delivered to the Tinman or postmarked by Friday, Dec. 10^th.
